We had high expectations for our late lunch/early Christmas dinner. Having watched Gordon Ramsay countless times on his many television shows, we were eagerly anticipating a memorable meal.
When we were seated at our table, we quickly realized that it being Christmas, there was only a limited menu to choose from. Not a big deal, but I would have thought that the special menu would have been communicated when making the reservation, not after arrival. We were surprised that there was no salad or side vegetables on offer, other than crispy Brussels sprouts.
The food we were served was excellent. We split the tuna tartare, which was fantastic. The Parker house rolls did not disappoint. The lobster bisque was rich and delicious. The beef Wellington was cooked perfectly medium rare and was thoroughly enjoyed. We also enjoyed on the side, Mac and cheese with crispy prosciutto, truffled scalloped potatoes, and after repeated requests, some sautéed broccolini.
Our disappointment was in the service, especially the wine service. Our server was very friendly and pleasant, but definitely needs some training in how to properly serve wine. The first bottle wasn’t bad other than a few drops being spilled and the cork not being left on the table. The real problem came with the second bottle. First the cork broke. When she returned to the table, the bottle had been opened, and she immediately started pouring the new bottle into our glasses which still held wine from the previous bottle. Luckily, the new bottle wasn’t “corked”, or all the wine would have been wasted. I probably wouldn’t have even mentioned this mistake had what happened after paying the check. As I was about to sign the credit card receipt, I noticed that the charge for the wine was almost double the price listed on the wine list. After pointing out the error, it was corrected with the explanation that someone had changed the price in the computer.
