RA is probably our very most favorite restaurant/bar in the culinary desert that is the Joliet area...though it is not really Joliet, technically Homer Glen. The food is amazing and unique, quite a surprise considering its location, sort of out in the middle of nowhere on a stretch of IL7 that seems to be eternal under construction located in a building that looks like it was originally designed to be a tractor sales/repair warehouse! The Jibaritos top the list of best that we have ever had anywhere (not that you can get them in many places in Chicago) and the El Barquito de Guineo is amazing, unique, delicious! If you want "mundane", they have about the best coconut shrimp that we have had anywhere. The side sauces provided with every dish are unique and worth taking home! If you like pulpa (octopus) try ANY of their dishes that include the ingredient. Even if you don't like octopus, try one of the dishes and you will! The bar menu is also unique and amazing. The Puna is fantastic but the king is their Caipirinha. It is so tasty and refreshing that Cachaça is now as much a standard in our liquor cabinet as is Casa Nobles tequila and any/every good vodka! The music and the ambience is a fun mix of thumping Latin beat and old-school rap/hip-hop (i.e., MY era! :). I dare you to go there and not feel the need to at least move a bit to the beat or to take your eyes off the beautiful people on the video screens. Last but not least is their staff. They are very nice and very attentive. In particular, the young, bearded fellow with the voice that eternally sounds like he was screaming for hours at a concert the night before is one of our favorite servers in the entire Chicagoland area. He is also the guy who ALWAYS makes the Caipririnhas the right way! (Sometimes they run out of Cachaça and other bartenders try to substitute in another liquor...and it fails every time...and we catch them!). Go to RA, often, the experience is unique, fulfilling & culturally refreshing!
