Our Story
The goal – to guarantee a wonderful meal with authentic cuisine and fabulous margaritas, serve over 50 artisanal and ancestral mezcals, and over 100 different types of tequila brands in a vibrant unique atmosphere that boasts excellent service. Ruta Oaxaca Mexican Cuisine opened in Astoria in 2021 with such a wonderful and successful home run that a second location opened in Patchogue in March 2022.

Ruta Oaxaca means “Road to Oaxaca,” a historic state in the southern part of Mexico. Mr. Castillo and his Partners are keenly focused on honoring Oaxacan culinary traditions, whose fame is derived in great part from its many varieties of moles. By legend, these ancient recipes are more than sauces, they are the very focus of the meal. Ruta Oaxaca proudly features four moles, each prepared using the Oaxacan mole recipes that have made the cuisine world famous.

This restaurant never disappoints. From the service to the food, it’s all exceptional. The ceviche was fresh and the tacos were phenomenal! The owner is always a pleasure and always makes it his priority to great me and ensure everything has gone smoothly. Highly recommend this restaurant to anyone.

Nice experience overall … server was very pleasant - they sang happy birthday to my sister for her birthday celebration…they even provided a portable heater when I was cold …will definitely go back !!!🤩

Amazing high end Mexican food that goes with the region. I eat a lot of Mexican food, and this was some of the best I have had in a while. It is upper scale Mexican food, not street Mexican. Definitely recommend. Also the drinks are great and reasonably priced!

Overpriced, one server for entire restaurant, had to wait extended periods of time for both food and drinks. Tres leche cake was terrible.

I’ve been to this restaurant a couple of times and the atmosphere is so fun. The staff is very accommodating and friendly. Food was spectacular.

Excellent place, the food is amazing. The mole is a must have. We were a large group but the place can accommodate large groups.
