We came to Salvatore's (reservation made prior) after attending a performance at the SD Civic Theatre. It was a Sunday afternoon, so there were minimal patrons. It was in between lunch and dinner (3-4 pm) and there was "technically" no service. That didn't matter. One of the managers bartenders, Tommy, was very hospitable to my wife (her B-day) and I, inviting us to sit anywhere and wait. We chose the bar and he offered us a cocktail and engaged in friendly conversation about the restaurant and most anything else. Afterwards, we were seated at a quiet booth. Overall, the drinks, food, service and ambience were excellent. We were very relaxed and lingered for a couple of hours. It was a very positive experience and we plan on returning again as well as inviting good friends to join us.

Brought a small group from work for a nice casual dinner and the food was absolutely terrific. Very inventive, focused on fresh ingredients and creative variations of classic Italian dishes. The menu has something to please every taste and dietary habit with a nice selection of starters and small plates in particular. Our server was lovely and tried hard but was overworked for the number of customers and struggled a bit to keep up. On this particular night, it seemed like the supply chain was not our friend: they were out of an unusually high number of basics -- couldn't make three of their specialty cocktails, were out of a major salad item, some entree limitations, etc... seemed like everything we ordered was out and we had to re-organize our choices more than a usual situation. That said, the food, was spectacular, decently priced for San Diego, and the servings were generous. The staff were very pleasant and the environment was really nice - pleasant seating, good lighting, and a nice vibe. Would definitely return when in the area and hope that the delivery trucks show up !

Food was great but the service was lacking. Our server rarely came by or asked about payment or food preferences for our group.

Delicious food! However, our server could have done better if they listened more and talked less. When we ordered the appetizers, only one of the three dishes were ordered so we sat there sharing Gnocchi. Besides, that , great experience overall. I will still come back!

Second time we have been there, both times for dinner, one weekday and one weekend. Both times a disappointment. Then fun “vibe” we see on IG we must be getting unlucky because it’s pretty dead and quiet there. Food is decent but nothing has jumped out as outstanding.

We are at the bar and Tommy the bartender was amazing. Best in class service. We were celebrating a birthday and he made us feel so welcome and taken care of. The food and drink were equally as amazing.

really good ravioli but very overpriced. menu says it has shrimp, it does not. drink was okay, cheese board was good but the cheese selection wasn’t great. i wouldn’t come again but i didn’t hate my experience. the service was also weird/a bit flippant.
