At Sarto, we believe that poring over the details is always worth it; and that the joys of a meal go far beyond the food itself. In keeping with Italy’s authentic, old-world traditions, we’ve approached our menu in much the same way an Italian chef opening a restaurant here in America might ── with dishes composed of fresh, locally sourced ingredients, that honor our region in a modern way.

Prepared from an open concept kitchen, our menu features modern Italian fare made with the freshest local ingredients Rhode Island has to offer, complimented by award – winning wines and a carefully curated cocktail program.

Sarto is located just moments from local performing arts and convention centers in the historic Teste brownstone building. Originally built in 1860, our restaurant was once home to an apothecary, a money-to-loan business and later the Philip Wolfe Haberdasher, which inspired the name Sarto or tailor in Italian.

    “Jazz It Up” with dinner, drinks and live music at the Sarto, as local trios perform hot Jazz from 8-11pm weekly on Saturdays. Out with a group? Perfect! Plan ahead and make online reservations for table service for you and your friends, so everyone has a seat during Jazz it up with Sarto! Heading to a show downtown? Be sure to stop by Sarto after the show and enjoy music, dessert or bar snacks and a late-night libation. As a proud supporter of local student musicians, Sarto will be booking college jazz groups to perform in the monthly calendar rotation. Are you a college student in a jazz group?     Take a culinary “Giro D’italia” (Tour of Italy) at Sarto for an aperitif cocktail reception and five-course tasting menu with optional wine pairings that showcase five select regions throughout Italy! Learn about how the regional pairings were created by Chef Phil Dushkewich, gain some Italian wine knowledge from a local wine expert, and enjoy the sounds of live jazz music during the evening. (Dinner menu and wine pairings will be listed online February 26.) The cost is $100 per person for an aperitif cocktail upon arrival, hors d’ouevres and the five-course tasting menu. Optional wine pairings are available for $50 per person. Taxes and gratuity will be added upon making your pre-paid reservation online.

    Very crowded and overbooked on V day. Food was okay. Staff were super busy so service was just okay.

    Had a great meal here! Smelled delicious the moment we stepped in the door. We shared the Invernale salad (greens and beets! mmm!). We both had the Pork Roast meal and it was awesome! Tender, tasty pork and creamy polenta with Swiss Chard for the greens. Friendly waitstaff and a nice environment overall. Short walk to PPAC for a show after dinner.

    The food was absolutely phenomenal! The service not so much. Not sure it was the server or the kitchen - but it wasd a 6:00 reservation and we expected better. Will definitely revisit Sarto!!!!

    Brunch was absolutely delicious! The service was wonderful from the reservation process to the final check. They went the extra mile to make our experience for my husband's birthday special.

    We had an outstanding experience. Seated at a window table by the pleasant hostess. Promptly attended to by the Seth, our waiter, and presented with the menu and specials. The food choices were outstanding. Our selections were served timely and hot and did not disappoint. The bistro tenderloin melts in your mouth and the papadelle ragu is phenomenal. Save room for the brown butter cake that provides a delicious end to a great all around experience.

    This place has a definite "student-run" feel to it, which is both charming and a bit chaotic. The service was friendly, if a little haphazard at times, like you'd expect from a group of young people juggling school and work. The Bistro food was OK, but overpriced and not as as good as in REAL Italian family restaurant – without any warm home-style Italian touch. The atmosphere was lively and energetic, with a constant buzz of loud conversations and Jazz music. It's the kind of place where you can come for a casual meal and enjoy the relaxed, student-driven Providence vibe.

    Made a reservation here as I wanted to have dinner with my wife before heading over to the PPAC for a theatre performance. This was perfect as it is minutes walking distance from the theatre, the service is outstanding, polite and quick. It is more on the upscale side, however this is a great place for a special occasion, the ambience is very romantic, the dishes are very detailed and well constructed. I recommend this place for a great night out in Providence.

    My husband and I dined at Sarto for the first time last night. It was a pre-show meal, as we had tickets at PPAC. What a lovely experience! Sarto hits the mark on every level. We are non-drinkers, and instead of feeling like we disappointed the server, we were offered flat or sparkling water (very European) with a sincere interest in accommodating our hydration - it's hard to describe, but it was sincere and appreciated. My husband is carnivore, I am vegetarian, and there is plenty to please us both. Phoebe, the manager excelled at table-touching, and Keeley (sp?), our server, was lovely. Thanks, Sarto... We will definitely be back! Wendy & Chris
