Since 1984, Shaw’s Crab House has earned its status as a Chicago icon with its unwavering commitment to quality and warm, dedicated staff. This generational restaurant embodies timeless seafood traditions inspired by America's coastal crab houses, creating a classic dining experience that stands the test of time. Signature dishes include King Crab Legs, oysters from both coasts, hand-rolled sushi, fresh fish, and more. After 40 years of excellence, Shaw's was ranked #8 in Chicago Magazine's Best Chicago Restaurants of 2024.

The restaurant's 1940s-style design features two distinct dining rooms: the lively, casual Oyster Bar and the elegant, white-tablecloth Main Dining Room. Guests who reserve "Hightop" seating will dine in the Oyster Bar, while "Standard" seating is for the Main Dining Room.

Located in the heart of River North, Shaw’s is just a short walk from Michigan Avenue and the Chicago River, making it a perfect spot to enjoy a memorable seafood experience.

    Join us in celebrating Shaw’s 40th anniversary with a Champagne and Oyster Event on Tuesday, April 8 from 5:00 PM - 6:00 PM. This cocktail-style reception features four exceptional champagnes—Ayala Brut Majeur, Ayala Brut Rosé Majeur, Bollinger Special Cuvée, and Bollinger La Grande Année (2015)—perfectly paired with Oysters on the half shell including Hama Hama and Island Creek oysters. Designed for mingling and learning, this event will be held in Shaw's Main Dining Room bar under the iconic green "Shaw's" neon. We recommend booking a reservation at Shaw’s to continue the celebration with dinner, as this event is the perfect way to start your evening. The event is $99.95 per person, plus tax (gratuity not included).

    Shana and Andy worked as a great team to provide top notch service that exceeded our expectations. It was our first time to Shaw’s and the two of them ensured we will be back. A special thanks to the host staff for moving our reservation from the Oyster bar to the main bar with ease and smiles.

    My nephew and I go to Shaw's once a year for my birthday and splurge on lobster tails. The food is delicious and the service is great. A little on the noisy side, but that't just because it's crowded with happy diners.

    The reviews were correct. The service is impeccable. The ambience was fine for such a massive restaurant perfect old school Chicago. The food was amazing fresh not overproduced. I highly recommend for personal or for business reasons.

    This place is still a classic. Pricey, but quality seafood! It was not too loud for us to have great conversation. The service was great!

    We really enjoyed Shaw’s. Our waiter was amazing as was all the wait staff. The oysters were amazing as well as the crab cake. My son ordered the filet and French fries off the kids menu. It was perfect! My daughter has the seafood fettuccine- not your classic American fettuccine sauce but delicious. My husband had the combination meal. The steak was good, the scallops amazing and the shrimp were ok. I had the crab stuffed flounder. This is one of my fave dishes and I was disappointed. It lacked seasoning and the fish needed a sear with butter. Brussels are our favorite side. These were a bit vinegary. The au gratin potatoes were also good - just needed a touch of salt. Overall a great experience!

    The tuna nigiri was fantastic (my recommendation over the sushi) ! So were the clam chowder and lobster tacos. The oyster sampler was great - we love trying a variety. The lemon butter sauce on the scallops was incredible. Would absolutely get the tuna nigiri and scallops again. It was not an inexpensive meal, but the food was delicious and filling.
