For reliable South Asian eating to the north of Newport’s city centre, it’s hard to think of a more welcoming option than Shoboraj on Malpas Road in Crindau. Just a short walk from both Crindau Park and Shaftesbury Park, this cosy neighbourhood restaurant offers authentic, affordable Indian and Bangladeshi specialties that cover every creature comfort and push the envelope with a few more. The range of king prawn curries is enticing and the spread of vegetarian starters and side dishes is impressive enough to satisfy even carnivores for a whole meal, but there is almost no end to the choices and nobody will fail to find something they like, so Shoboraj is perfect for dining with large groups. Just bear in mind that Shoboraj is a local Indian favourite, so it’s wise to book a table before you go just in case!
