Our steaks were old and tough. The loaded baked potato gratin was burnt. Disappointing NYC steakhouse experience. Glad management didn’t charge us for the original steaks. Won’t be going back though.

Far too noisy - tables of guests literally shouting at each other. Steaks and wine was very nice indeed but too pricey for the level and service and poor ambiance.

Everything was excellent. The waitstaff and especially our server were fantastic, made great suggestions. The food superior. Highly recommend smith & wollinsky to everyone in or visiting New York.

Fantastic classic NY steakhouse - porterhouse was unreal, Mac and cheese was to die for. Reasonable corkage fee too. Will be back!

We were put in some kind of storage room at the back of the main rooms, where they had dressed a few tables, alongside some spare chairs. While we had booked weekend in advance, we missed all the atmosphere of the restaurant, reason we initially chose Smith & Wollensky. We won’t go back.

Food was incredible as always. Got oysters & shrimp cocktail for apps — quality was great and big portions. For entrees we got the Cajun Ribeye and Prime Rib - both out of this world. For sides we got mashed potatoes, mac & cheese, and sauteed spinach. Lastly for dessert we got the chocolate cake and coconut cream cake with sorbet — woah! Our server was Carl M, and he was awesome - make sure you ask for him. He was so attentive and on top of everything. Such an enjoyable meal

I made a reservation here to try a particular steak preparation (Cajun Ribeye). When I made the reservation, it did note that it was for "(outside)", but I didn't know what that would mean in terms of my dining experience. Having dined during pandemic, I've had lots of outdoor dining experiences and some were better than others. I'll cut to the chase: Smith & Wollensky NYC should not seat diners in their outdoor dining area in the winter. It's simply not up to the task and it does their restaurant a disservice. There's no enjoying your dinner when the diner is cold; we joked about it, but we could see our breath the entire time (and that was before we ordered hot drinks to keep warm) and we all kept our winter jackets on to dine. The two mounted heaters were no match for the 6" gap at the bottom of the sidewall sheeting that let the wind blow through. The food was good, the waiter attempted to do his best, but there was simply no making up for the fact that they shouldn't have taken our reservation. Either set up a more comfortable outdoor dining area or don't serve there - it's that simple.
