Sotto Cucina & Bar will launch at Hyatt Place London City East in Whitechapel, London on 14th May 2024; a contemporary Sicilian kitchen and bar led by Sicilian executive chef Alfio Laudani.
Sotto Cucina & Bar offers small, private dining rooms that can accommodate groups of up to twenty five people.Our clients will be able to rely on our team of event planners and chefs to make your event truly memorable, no matter the occasion, from a large gathering to a simple get-together with family and friends.
We arrived on time for our reservation and they said the kitchen was closed.

Subterranean restaurant in the Hyatt hotel. Wines very expensive, foccacia rations tiny. Overall, expensive for what it is.

What is a chef with such talent, and a team of young, efficient, marvellously kind, and welcoming waiting staff, special thanks to Andrei (you deserve the next top award to be celebrated), Yahiya, and the seafood loving waitress from Malaga, doing being hidden away in the atmosphere lacking basement of a hotel in Whitechapel?! So much better than I had expected, and with such delicious food and service that we will definitely be going back to eat here despite the hotel lobby, breakfast room vibe.
Everything my husband and I tried was delicious, and, better than that, created with both skill, care and high quality ingredients. The insalta di mare featured a generous portion of moist yielding and flavour packed pulpo, the caponata brought an authentic splash of Palermo to London, the olive oil and focaccia were ace, and my main of branzino still makes me grin with delight the day afterwards. Never has seabass seemed so luxurious. Moist, plump, yielding flesh resting on an oozing tomato, oil, & capers flavour packed bed of delight. I left the plate clean, bar the tail fins! Great wine recommendation from Andrei, the Carratto, served in my husband, Andy´s, and my favourite half carafe measure, being the perfect accompaniment to a top fish based meal: (Andy´s cod cheeks were top too).
Anyway, I urge you to dine at Sotto Cucina & Bar, this small oddly placed restaurant deserves to be visited, the staff congratulated, and the excellent menu enjoyed to the full. Love Catherine

The welcome snd service were exemplary and even when one is f the diners found the pasta a little too al dente the restaurant were very accommodating and replaced the pasta without question Will certainly come again

Food is adeqate and the restaurant is popular during the current soft openning offer period. Unfortunately the room feels like a hotel breakfast room ( which it is) somewhat repurposed as an Italian resturant in the evening. This feeling is enhanced as you arrive past the hotel reception area which is in sight of most of the restaurant. The menu and the actual dishes are a bit dissapointing considering the history of the chef ; it feels a bit dumbed down to fit the requirements of a modest hotel restaurant.

We used Hot Dinners introduction and received a 50% discount on both food and drinks. If it wasn’t for that and the fact that the service was superb and our waiter very pleasant, I would have given it two stars. We started with the arancini - it was so hard it couldn’t be cut (I was worrying it was going to fly across the room while trying to cut it) and lack flavour. The pasta lacked flavour as well.
