An Iberian take on the classic American all-day restaurant, Spanish Diner features larger portions of Spanish favorites from the mind of award-winning chef José Andrés. Dishes like gambas al ajillo, croquetas de pollo, gazpacho, and patatas bravas are all on the menu, along with a focus on regional specialties like fabada asturiana and cocido madrileño. Egg dishes are a specialty with classics like the iconic tortilla española, huevos estrellados, and huevos revueltos. The menu at Spanish Diner is quintessentially Spanish, but you’ll be hard-pressed to find these dishes at any restaurant in Spain as these are the recipes that are found at home, shared around the kitchen table with family and friends, generation after generation.

    Been a favorite for years. Not quite the same as it's older sibling, Jaleo, but it hits the spot for some amazing sangria, tapas, and other Spanish food.

    Our entrees were just okay. The ropes viejas was dry, my patatas gravas, flan and my friend’s cheesecake was delicious! We might try lunch to see if it’s better.

    I’ve been a fan of Jose Andres since he opened Jaleo on 7th Street NW in 1993, so I was especially disappointed by my meal at Spanish Diner. The restaurant was not particularly crowded but the waitperson kept urging us to order. We weren’t in a hurry, but she was. We ordered paella. It was a 45 minute wait, which presumably meant that it was cooked to order. Alas, it was mediocre at best. It seems that others were clued in to the decline in quality since Spanish Diner was half empty on a Saturday night.

    Spanish Diner is one of the nicest restaurants in the area. The interior decor is fun and happy, the menu is expansive and innovative, and the food is amazing. I took my daughter, her husband and 15 year old granddaughter there for an early Saturday night dinner. We ordered 6 appetizers, two main courses and 4 desserts , all to share. We loved everything. I ordered the regular Margarita and it was one of the best I have ever had. Our waitstaff was lovely and frequently checked on us. Dinner guests are dressed casually but nice. It was a lovely evening and my 15 year old granddaughter declared that she loves trying new restaurants.

    Consistently awesome food. I have to order the gazpacho each time because it is the best I’ve ever had. Delicious zero proof cocktail options. Service was excellent and friendly.

    We are exploring Spanish cuisine and this was a great place to do so. The food is good, homemade Spanish food and the wait staff is knowledgeable and friendly.

    Because the heat was not working. Our whole experience was uncomfortably cold. The small space heaters were insufficient to do any good. People were actually wearing coats and hats in the restaurant. Had I known it would be so cold I would not have made a reservation there.
