Located in the Corktown neighborhood of Detroit, TAKOI is known for modern Thai cooking accented with Michigan seasonality, a DIY mentality, and a penchant for local food production. As a core pillar of our mission, TAKOI operates HiO Farm which is located just a mile north of the restaurant. During the height of farm season, the restaurant highlights dishes prepared with HiO produce utilizing the techniques and flavors inspired by Thailand and beyond.


TAKOI, originally KATOI, began as a food truck in 2014, evolved into an Ann Arbor pop-up, and landed as a proper restaurant at 2520 Michigan Avenue in March of 2016. After being open for 11 months, having a slew of fun, and garnering a handful of awards — including a James Beard 'Best New Restaurant' nomination— KATOI was brought back down to earth when it was subjected to arson in February 2017. The day after the fire, the rebuild began, and we opened as TAKOI exactly six months later in August 2017.

    We hadn’t been here in awhile, and decided to take advantage of the beautiful weather and enjoy a night out. We began our meal with the shrimp appetizer and then ordered the Brussels sprouts, ribs, and sticky rice as our main meal. Each of these courses was flavorful and delicious, with just the right amount of spices as well with appropriate sauces to accompany them. The serving sizes were generous enough for two people to share. Finally, we finished our meal with the special coconut milk ice cream sundae with dulce de leche. We hesitated about ordering it, because as described it sounded ‘plain’ in comparison to our meal, but it was absolutely the right dessert to cleanse the palette after such a nice array of flavor and spices. We would absolutely recommend Takoi as a fun, vibrant, energetic place for couples or a small group of friends to laugh, converse and enjoy the food and background music.

    Upscale Thai with a good looking menu. Note the 20% gratuity added to our table of 2. After taking our food order, our waiter didn’t come by to ask if everything was alright until he came by for payment. Food was alright but fine dining Thai food is a stretch.

    The meal was amazing, did the tasting menu and a little expensive but was a good amount of food and meant I tried a couple of amazing dishes I might now have chosen otherwise. The bream was one of the best things I have ever eaten.

    Takoi is a true Asian-Infused gem in hidden in Corktown. My husband and I shared the chef’s tasting menu, and each dish was a delightful journey of flavors. The use of unique spices and ingredients had us guessing with every bite! What truly stood out was the exceptional service. Our server, along with the rest of the staff, was genuinely attentive and incredibly knowledgeable about the ingredients and flavors used in every dish. Their passion for the food and their commitment to enhancing the dining experience was evident in every interaction. The combination of outstanding cuisine and impeccable service made for a night to remember. We’re already looking forward to our next visit to Takoi! Renee and John Decator
