Terroni Adelaide, formerly the York County Courthouse, is a multi-level heritage structure built in 1852. Just inside the doors is the Enoteca with its towering columns, a great spot for cocktails. Beyond is the main dining room, with a sunlit atrium, fireplaces on each end and private rooms all serviced by an open kitchen where our chefs prepare traditional Italian fare. In summer, the secret garden patio opens for al fresco dining in the heart of the city.

Head down to the Cantina Wine Cellar where you will see the original courthouse cells now used to store our Italian wine. The second floor houses the grand Sala da Pranzo and Bar delle Carceri, named after the cells below. Il Covo degli Artisti, our third-floor space is a cosy lounge once home to The Arts and Letters Club where Canadian landscape painters “The Group of Seven” ate and drank in 1909.

    We booked this months ago for a 40th birthday which is a quite special occasion though it may not seem super special to some, perhaps our server. We asked for waters as we sat down, one guest had to take some medication. Our server said no problem, however proceeded to serve another table before us that sat after us (we were the first people sat upstairs). It was downhill from here. I'm not sure if the server was offended we asked someone else for water, but she basically never came back. We got our food quite quickly, but she never asked 2 guests for more drinks after their water, and they would have purchased them. The food was great, that was the best part of the experience. I've been to other Terroni locations which were much better than this. We had to ask someone passing by for our server to get dessert, but he took our order instead. He was a busser or server assistant but he was great. I'm not sure why the service was so bad, we're mind boggled.

    Incredible food, and super knowledgeable and friendly server. Reasonable prices, albeit with European portions. Dinner, drinks, and dessert for two people totalled $150 after tip. Only real complaint was the DJ had the music really loud, and some songs felt a little out of place (Nice Italian restaurant with explicit dance club music?)
