A Traditional Derbyshire Inn
With A Five Counties View!

The Barrel Inn, a traditional Derbyshire country inn, dates back to 1597 and stands at the head of Bretton Clough, in the heart of the Peak District.

Being one of only five properties in this small hamlet, on a table of land some 1300 feet above sea level, The Barrel Inn proudly claims to be the highest pub in Derbyshire.

Its panoramic views of the majestic Hope Valley and the Peak District National Park are magnificent and on a clear day you are able to enjoy views over five counties.

The pub serves a fine selection of well kept real ales and delicious, freshly cooked, mostly locally sourced food, every day.

Old worldly charm - peaceful oak-beamed bar, real log fires, flagstone floors, studded doors in low doorways, beamed ceilings and polished copper and brass - have all been retained to enhance the overall charm and friendliness of the Inn.

    Visited on two evenings. I found it an enjoyable and pleasant experience. Soft shell crab was very good, a bit pricey but worth it. I had lambs liver which was a bit overdone for my taste but the flavour of the sauce was excellent. Finished with rhubarb (very nice) with set custard which was a bit stodgy for my preference. Second night I had a very good pork chop with curried lentils which was was very tasty. Reasonable wine by the glass selection. My wife enjoyed her meal but felt it was a bit expensive. The service was excellent, very friendly and efficient. I would go again.

    Had a great Sunday lunch at the Barrel Inn. Everything was soo tasty and cooked well. The services was fantastic also.

    Wonderful country pub with a lovely cosy homely feel , exceptional food and all the staff very welcoming and friendly. I kept them informed we were going to be late due to road closures but they accommodated us and didn’t make us feel uneasy about the delay in any way. First class staff and service all round , thankyou very much for a lovely evening for our anniversary.

    We visited for a family evening meal while visiting Tideswell. The food was delicious and the waiter was very efficient and patient.
