From day one, we have wanted this little restaurant to be a space where anyone can feel comfortable & welcomed. Classic French cuisine is the root of this ethos - consistent, familiar and even nostalgic flavours from the tried & true feel good classics, yet slightly elevated with a touch of whimsy. Whether you are up for a curated culinary experience with our 4 & 7 Course tasting menus (Fri & Sat evenings), or prefer to choose your own adventure with our 3-course Table D’hote menu (Wed & Thurs evenings), or are in search of an upscale lunch à la carte menu (Thur - Sat); we have you covered! Our menus are composed entirely to showcase the best local products in Lanark County & the Ottawa Valley and are tailored monthly to best celebrate the tastes of the season. What’s more is that we tie it all together with the best small town, friendly, warm and courteous service around. Just like at a good friend’s house; we look forward to welcoming you to our kitchen! For a great reunion with great friends the Black Tartan Kitchen was the perfect venue! Our evening began by being warmly greeted at the front door then shown to our table, which we all agreed was the perfect location to enjoy stimulating conversation. Our meal was served in a leisurely fashion so that we never felt rushed. During the course of the meal Head Chef and Owner Ian Carswell came out several times to stop at each table for a visit. As for the food, it was amazing. One of our guests at our table had come up from Owen Sound and was in search of the perfect "Blue" steak to have with her frites and she declared that it was the best she'd ever had! Both the cream of mushroom suit and the Scott-ish pies were a big hit and you can't go wrong with any of the dessert choices! Overall the Black Tartan is outstanding and well worth visiting! You won't be disappointed!

My wife and I went for lunch at the Black Tartan and were very happy with the service and the food. Paul was a great host and explained everything available in good detail, the setting was nice and not noisy, and the food was excellent. Overall great experience! Thanks!

We have enjoyed our meals every time we visit Black tartan. Last night it was very busy with a large group next to us but once they left the noise level was much better. That’s our fault for booking a date night so close to Xmas. Lol Our server was great and went above and beyond to make the night out great.

A great experience! Delicious, well presented foods, and friendly staff. Really enjoyed chef, Ian Carswell, describing the foods. Highly recommend!

Who would have thought that sleepy Carleton Place could be home to such an outstanding dining experience! Accommodating ( we were late), gracious, fun, knowledgeable AND absolutely outstanding food with beautiful wine pairings. We will certainly return and recommend it to friends. We attended the early seating on Friday night: not recommended if you are coming from east end Ottawa: the Queensway was brutal. I have beautiful photos but dont want to spoil the fun of discovery!
