Serving fresh, bold and innovative food that reflects the history of New Bedford and celebrates the New Bedford fishermen, their catch and their culture.

Our menu focuses on local fishermen’s catch of the day, old school seafood favorites and a sprinkling of modern seafood interpretations. Menu ranges from raw bar, to warm and cold lobster rolls, baked cod, bacon wrapped scallops, bouillabaisse and grilled NY Strip.

Large bar and spectacular views of the artful New Bedford Fishing Fleet. Large covered and heated deck overlooking the fishing boats and harbor. Centrally located beside the Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket Ferries. Large parking lot.

And, of course, the hospitality is second to none. Service is what built the business.

I loved this restaurant- we ate outside in the heated tent. Totally comfortable- wait staff was friendly and service was great. Food was outstanding and very reasonably priced. 5 stars!! Lisa M

I probably go to Black Whale about 2-3x a month! We love it here! Its our go to spot ! We love the whole vibe there! The waiters are so friendly, place is super clean, and the seating/view on deck is my fav! We start with the Boom Boom shrimp, they are out of this world and then to be honest I am obsessed with their Caesar salad the focaccia croutons I dream about lol and the salad dressing is amazing and fresh! I prob get the salad each time I go and sometimes I’ll add steak or chicken to it but all the dishes and drinks they serve are delish! Def check them out- wont be disappointed!

Have been going to the Whale for years, really enjoy the atmosphere. My Wife’s Old School Cod was dry and disappointing, considering we’ve had before and was really good That said we will try again.

We are frequent visitors. We had a 2:15 reservation and were seated right away. After 15 minutes no one had even come over to greet us. We flagged down the hostess, and a very unpleasant server came over and told us she was very busy and what could she do for us. She filled her eyes several times while taking our order, and it was very uncommon. I have never had bad service here, and we dine here 2 times a month at least. This really ruined our experience, and we had a guest with us who was a first time visitor.

Waitress was fantastic! They made me a special cod fish with Mozambique and it was delicious! I am hoping to see it on the special menu soon and then make the everyday menu in the future. Great time!

We had Emma as our server. She was friendly & very helpful with out dinner choices. We started with coconut shrimp & for our entrees, I got the rack of lamb with chipotle mashed sweet potato & grilled asparagus. So amazing! And my husband got the chicken alla vodka also amazing. Emma assisted us in choosing a nice Portuguese wine, silk & spice. It was delicious & smooth. We are frequent flyers at the Black Whale and for a very good reason. Top quality Food & amazing staff!
