The Canteen is a full-service neighbourhood restaurant in Downtown Dartmouth, serving up chef-inspired seasonal fare for lunch, brunch and dinner. At the helm in the kitchen is award-winning chef and co-owner Renee Lavallee. Her seasonal menus are influenced by classic French, Italian and traditional Nova Scotian cuisine – with a little bit of Renée’s magic thrown in. Signature items include The Canteen Burger, The Crobster Roll, Seafood Chowder and more.

I joined my daughter for lunch. The service was very good but I found the food mediocre and very expensive. I also found the noise level uncomfortably high.

Todays potato leek soup out was the best we have ever tasted ! so good, we brought extra home 💗 Haddock burgers were also tasty 👍

I love the Canteen! When I go out the canteen is my first choice. Food, ambiance, Rene and Doug are two Nova Scotia foodies who support local with love.

Seamless experience from the moment we arrived. Our server was attentive and very kind. We went for my husband’s birthday and brought our three kids. Will definitely be going back

Went there to celebrate my Twin sister’s birthday and was not recognized for birthday not sure if there should be an option on booking if it’s not noticed. Also was served a bad batch of white wine. Food was amazing.

The Canteen is one of our favourites and always delivers an exceptional experience. Their famous Crobster roll is back for the holidays so now is the time to get it. I crave their kale Caesar salad and get it almost every time I'm there. The service is always warm and welcoming.

We were greeted at the door by friendly staff. The service was excellent and the food was amazing! We ordered beet salad, crab dip and chowder. The beet salad was amazing! It was the first time I'd tried it and it's on my list of favorites, now! The crab dip and chowder we've had before and they were, as remembered, delicious. A great meal followed by wonderful desserts. You can't go wrong at the Canteen. We enjoyed every minute of our time there. Can't wait to go back!

Another fantastic meal at The Canteen. Delicious seasonal cocktails before dinner, an excellent variety of wines to enjoy with dinner, and appetizers and mains that were beautifully presented and indescribably delicious!!! Perfect, friendly service (as always!), and simply THE best place to eat, drink, and celebrate the start of the Christmas season with friends.
