We regularly go to the longstore (which is LOVELY) but they had no availability, so the cellar was suggested as it has the same menu and uses the same kitchen.
However, our table for 8 was actually 3 small round tables next to each other with chairs that were too low for the tables.
It is a very small room which was busy, loud and not at all relaxing.
We were sat in the open doorway which had people and dogs in and out constantly.
There was 1 member of staff behind the bar who was helpful and did her best.
We were asked if we were ready to order but hadn't even seen the menu, she went and got them and we asked for the specials board, which she said they don't really offer but agreed to get it after telling us our table was needed before 8.
We ordered, with the only request being the porterhouse having no onions or onion puree on it.
When it eventually started to arrive, the hake was tiny but tasty, the 2 steaks were much smaller than usual and the porterhouse had onions and puree on. One was sat waiting as their burger arrived Much later and one of the steaks, ordered rare was medium.
The sides came down just as the last mouthful of hake was being eaten and I told the server the steak was overcooked. They offered to cook a fresh one.
They were up and down the stairs to bring condiments and drinks but it just wasn't practical as people were finishing before they got back with what was needed. 2 sauces paid for didn't arrive until we sent them back up again. No vinegar or salt and pepper were available either.
Everyone had finished and I had eaten my chips, so I went to the bar and asked them to forget the steak as it still hadn't come. She apologised and said it takes 20mins to cook from fresh, I said thanks but we need to be off the table soon anyway.
5 mins later a waiter arrived with my steak and I said the same to him,he asked me to have it anyway. I ate alone,it was still overcooked but better and he kindly took it of the bill.
Drinks-Yes, Food-NO!!!
