Welcome to the Chequers Inn, a unique Sussex gastopub with featuring in the AA, Michilin and MasterChefs of Great Britain guides. We have an outstanding reputation for fine food, excellent wines and handpicked local ales.

Our menus are simple yet delicious. We offer a contemporary take on classic British and French-inspired cuisine, with every dish freshly-prepared in our country kitchen.

    We are regular visitors to this lovely pub but Friday nights service was shambolic - constantly having to ask for items several times. The food was delicious as usual but service marred the evening I’m afraid.

    The pheasant was beautifully cooked, very tasty and moist, and vegetables well chosen and not overcooked. Just what I expected from previous visits. Recommended.

    An excellent halfway meeting place between Wandsworth and Brighton. Four diners: 2 chose calves liver - both agreed it was fantastic. 1 fish and I chose pheasant - also fantastic. The sauces wonderful. We will make this a regular meeting point for lunch. Everything was superb including ghost ship beer for the drivers.

    A small dinner for five for my daughter’s birthday was delightful! The food was very good, well served, from a great menu. The staff were delightful, kind and helpful and we had an altogether enjoyable evening and would thoroughly recommend the restaurant!

    Delicious food - we both had curried prawns to start and I had sea bass and my friend had calves liver. Staff were lovely, as usual. A very pleasant evening.

    Exterior of pub is very ordinary and you' drive past it but it's lovely inside clearly quite old so don't be put off plus food excellent but not the cheapest.

    Lovely lunch, a roast and a cheese tart, just stunning. We shared a tandoori dish to start which was amazing too. The best food we have had for a long time.
