We were here for 2024 Valentine's Day and it was an excellent experience. The value was more than there and we were extremely satisfied. From that experience, we decided to come back in August 2024 for our anniversary and it was a terrible disappointment. For $250 per person before tax and tip, we were served 8 pieces of subpar nigiri that was warm and at times had that not fresh "fishy" taste. And of the 8 nigiri pieces, 2-3 pieces were not even fresh fish, leaving only about 2 pieces of fish that tasted fresh and appetizing.
Besides us was a couple that went for the $350 18 piece nigiri omakase, and theirs didn't look too much better than ours. We had better and fresher fish at a local sushi restaurant. We also had to wait a substantial amount of time between appetizer courses and was left staring at the chef until the chef realized our appetizer was still missing 10 minutes later.
We were left extremely underwhelmed with our experience and felt that this was worth more along the lines of $100-$150 with the quality of fish and service received. In total, there is a mandatory 20% gratuity ($105 tip) and the final bill came out to be $681.76 with 2 drinks. Unfortunately from this experience, we began to understand why almost the entire Azabu restaurant was empty compared to completely packed in February; it felt as though they were trying to save money in little places like the freshness of the fish but that in turn had a huge impact.
From today's underwhelming experience, we are disappointed to say that we will not be returning again.
