Established in 2013, THE DISPENSARY would not be out of place in downtown Manhattan or inner-city Melbourne. Boasting Mackay’s largest wine and whisky collection, and a great selection of boutique beers and cocktails you are sure to find the perfect beverage to suit.

Sat right at the end near the kitchen so very noisy. Waitress wasn’t listening and ordered us bread instead of oysters which we still had to pay for. Oysters then came out with our main meal but the main meal was cold and food was pretty poor. No free drink/money off the bill offered, expensive too.

The great wait staff can’t make up for the shortfalls that have continued to creep in over time. We hadn’t been back for a while and thought we would try again. Unfortunately the same hit-and-miss, inconsistent output from the kitchen continues. An hour between starter and main, enough time to basically finish the bottle of red we had selected for both courses, then one of two mains plates arrives cold… Didn’t even stay for desert 🫤 Sad to see such a previously top venue deliver such a poor experience.

Greta place. The high tables near window, the chairs are terrible. They're really heave any you can't shift your seat in when you sit. Otherwise great place thanks

The Dispensary is one of the best restaurants in Mackay. The meals and drinks are reasonably priced and excellent quality. The meals are also really large serves. Service is always excellent. The drinks menu is now required to be viewed on a mobile via a scanned barcode, which I do not like, and don't see the point of, as the staff still take the drinks orders. My only other (very small) gripes are that the napkins are paper (not linen) and the air-con was a bit too cold for my liking. Overall, our meal was wonderful and we will definitely be back!
