Great food, fine ales, plenty of gin and a friendly atmosphere – what more could you want from a restaurant and country pub! 2024 has seen an extensive £150,000 refurbishment creating a stylish and contemporary restaurant & country pub..

Set in the tiny, picturesque village of Skipwith only ten miles south of York, it is the main destination inn in the area. The delicious created dishes on our menu are locally sourced and reflect the changing seasons, mirroring the wonderful walks to be found through Skipwith Common, right on its doorstep.

    This is a beautiful pub and somewhere that I have frequently visited for the last 10 years. The recent refurb is lovely. The food was delicious and extremely high quality. I only have one criticism that I hope is taken extremely positively. As a resident of York city centre I tend to eat out a lot and I am understanding of an increased price for beautiful food in a lovely pub. The prices have significantly increased since the refurbishment understandably but the food is outstanding and I’d expect to pay £20 for a main course. However a point to note is £38 for a sirloin steak with an additional £4.50 for your sauce in a village pub is ludicrous and something that needs addressing. I haven’t paid that much money for a sirloin steak in York city centre for a very long time I have however paid that much for fillet steak. Had the sauce been included I may have considered it but out of principle I couldn’t justify over £42.50 just for my main. Sirloin steak at the Ivy in York is £28.50 if it’s an outstanding cow then please add this to the menu otherwise I’d seriously suggest lowering the price to £30 as it’s just far to high for a village pub no matter how nice it is.

    Called in for lunch and took advantage of the fixed price lunch menu, sufficient choice. We had the beef brisket which was nice although a little bit tough but I really expected that. Otherwise it was very filling. Starters were garlic mushrooms which could have been stronger with the garlic for me but that’s a personal choice. It’s clean, contemporary on a country setting with friendly and efficient staff, we will call again.

    We had a really lovely lunch for my friends birthday, it was a lovely touch that she received a card from the staff and a her desert had Happy Birthday written in chocolate on the plate. I shall be returning to sample something else on the menu.

    We enjoyed a really excellent Sunday lunch. The whole experience was first class with well organised attentive staff serving great beer, wine and terrific food. Pat it a visit you won’t be disappointed

    The staff really friendly and give their time to talk to you. We went there on recommendation and boy we can see why recommend. Hat off to the chef and his team. My wife rated the food as absolutely outstanding she had the king prawns in Pernod plenty of them as a starter and had the serloin steak 10 out of 10 she gave it I had sea food starter then figs with Italian ham and a kilo of mussels in a cram white wine soup and lovely GF proper bred I finished off with cheese and a selection of cheese's which X3 which change. We took our dog and they have the Dog bar area set aside. Respect to the owners lad out out well and very very smart. Great find definitely going back
