Welcome to the Engine Room
Great quality food, produced from fresh and locally sourced produce, is teamed with a fantastic range of drinks – from soft drinks, and beers to cocktails. Sitting inside the lovingly restored Old Fire Station, within the heart of Sunderland’s cultural quarter the Engine Room is the perfect place to enjoy a meal before visiting the theatre, mark a special occasion or simply meet with friends for a fun night in the city.

    We each had a roast of the day. One pork and one beef. Both were ok but the portion size was tiny. Also got a child’s pasta bake which tasted delicious and the portion was huge! Service staff were super helpful and very pleasant.

    Great venue - a little noisy but to be expected on the last Fri before Christmas Helpful and friendly staff Not rushed at all despite it being so busy Will definitely visit again

    What a lovely place! 1st time visiting as we are trying to visit new places at the moment. Quickly sat us down and got a high hair for my baby, quick service, the girls that served us were absolutely lovely and nothing was a bother! and food was unbelievably lovely! We were in a quiet part which was ideal because my 11 month old had a few moments of twisting and it meant I could get up with her! Me, my partner and both kids ate everything and not one complaint had by anyone!! We will definitely be back ❤️ Thank you so much for such an amazing meal and time

    We have to the Engine Room many time and always enjoyed. Sadly our last visit was very poor. The food was not up to standard and we won’t be returning
