The Good Reader - Pub & Kitchen is a local Crouch End family-run pub, offering fresh, seasonal, delicious food with excellent wines, batch-made cocktails and the usual suspects on draught. A la carte & kids menu all week harnessed around the Saturday brunch menu and a good old Sunday lunch. Beer garden and the best sun trap in Crouch End on offer.

We are no under 18's after 7:30pm.

We had a an absolutely lovely evening, and the food was amazing. We came for dinner and to see the live music, "The Boneshakers", which both were an absolute treat. The Lady greeting us when we arrived was outstanding in her service, super friendly and very attentive, even got a blanket for the dogs to sit on. The only small minus point was the temperature, we felt a bit chilly, especially in the dining room, but its nothing that would keep us from not returning!

Wonderful experience Finally got to the pub for Sunday lunch after its reopening and it was worth the wait! Really helpful friendly staff, dog friendly even with a big greyhound. Vegan roast wellington was tasty and veg all nicely cooked not soft and boiled for hours! Pork belly tender and nice crackling, really good ingredients. Already looking forward to coming back during the week just to chat and chew with friends. Live music is coming soon so another reason to drop in! 🥂

Incredible food and service every time. Meat and veggie options both incredible. Chef is a genius. Well done Team Reader! They have transformed this pub. Impressive

Thoroughly enjoyed the roast pork, bigger portions would have topped it to match the price. Warm and welcoming staff and service.

Before start, I must say that I am very sad to leave this review. I absolutely love the Good Reader and visiting many times since it has opened. My husband and I I were excited to hear when they’ve finally opened their kitchen as they were serving only drinks when they’ve finally opened, so we book a table for Sunday roast. We were very disappointed and dissatisfied. No one came to our table for about 25 min since we sat down so we’ve decided to go to the bar and order from there. They were happy to serve us drinks but said that we need to order food from a waiter. A waiter eventually came to take our order and we received our food an hour after we set down and already had 2 rounds of drinks. The portions were humiliating for a Sunday roast, the beef arrived cold ( a table next to us send theirs back for that same reason), the potatoes tasted like they were pre cooked and reheated. That said, the chicken was good, it’s just a shame that there was such little of it. I ate my chicken, my husband kind of ate his plate cause we were both starving and we left hungry to have a sirloin roast at the humble grape. At no point anyone came to see how are doing, if we’re happy with our food, if we wanted more drinks etc. I had to get up to the bar to order and also to pay cause it was just impossible to pin someone down. To conclude, we will be back at the Good Reader but probably just for drinks, not food. The atmosphere there is warm and welcoming and the people are lovely so I would recommend it for that purpose. Hopefully this is just a hiccup of the beginning and that they grow from it.

This is a very likeable place and I want it to do well. But at present the service is a bit haphazard, and that needs improving. It is also very noisy. The food is good, but I'd like bit of variety - the same menu for many weeks now.

Staff were at all times professional, helpful and cheerful. My burrata dish was good but the dressing was too sharp. Sadly we all found the noise level far too high and the staff for some technical reason - although they helpfully lowered it as much as they could - they had to apologise for the fact that they were unable to lower it any more. But we would all return at a quieter time of day . And we appreciate the hard work that all staff and management are putting in to make this new venue a success.

Food and ambience are all good. Prices are OK for Crouch End. Alas staff, although friendly and pleasant seem inexperienced as everything took rather longer than it should. Beer initially had too much foam on top but was corrected when pointed out. Place seems popular with families with very young children (at Sunday lunch) which can make for rather a high noise level, in case that is something that might bother you. Dog friendly.
