Situated in the historic village of Aylesford, The Hengist is a modern restaurant and bar, a short walk from the river's edge.

The 16th Century building stands with original features, offering a perfect balance of elegance, heritage and modernity all surrounded by manicured gardens.

The Hengist offers a range of dining options including a casual dining option on the ground floor and two more formal dining rooms upstairs along with outside terrace dining in our gardens.

We offer seasonal 'a la carte and 'set' menus along with a 'Sunday lunch' menu. All of our dishes are freshly made to order with locally sourced ingredients.

    Very nice restaurant , uniquely decorated - just a shame that service was a little bit slow - we were in restaurant for over 2 hours so did not bother with a dessert

    Terrifying decor. Nightmarish cocktails. £10 for a slice of Brie on a slice of toast. Raw turkey x 2 meals.

    A limited menu but several items unavailable. Two of the four starters, one of the six mains and one of the four puddings unavailable. Cashew nut and Miso curry with rice was all cold when it arrived. Disappointing sadly.

    Very disappointed, The Hengist used to be one of my favorite restaurants Since changing hands sadly the service and food have gone down hill I had the fish pie that didn’t have any fish in it and my friend had the curry that was cold…… Such a shame But we won’t be returning 🙁

    Fantastic meal and extremely friendly service. Nothing was too much trouble and you can see how passionate the owners and staff are. Roast beef was excellent and Fish pie delicious.

    We waited 30 mins to be offered a drink, we then ordered all the food and drinks at once to try and claim back some time as we had a toddler with us. Starters came out at a reasonable time but then took 45 mins to be cleared away. We were repeatedly told our roasts were coming over the span of 20 mins, at this point we had been at the restaurant for two hours and not received a main course. We asked for the bill and left without eating. It’s such a shame as we are locals and had such high hopes for the new opening!

    The Sunday roast at The Hengist has the perfect balance between comfort and indulgence. The roast lamb was delicious and cooked to perfection, accompanied by golden roast potatoes, fluffy Yorkshire puddings, and rich, flavorful gravy. Seasonal vegetables added a fresh touch. The cocktail menu elevated the experience with expertly crafted drinks that complemented the hearty meal. The cozy yet stylish ambiance made it an ideal setting for a relaxed Sunday afternoon. Service was attentive without being intrusive making the overall experience thoroughly enjoyable. A must-try for roast lovers and cocktail lovers. The espresso Martini and the On The Beach are a must!

    Delicious meal at the steak night, thank you to Kieron, George and all of the team for a great evening. Service brilliant and food tasty. A lovely bottle of Merlot to go with the steak too. Little George was our waiter and very attentive but not overbearing. Thank you all 😃
