Our Christmas Day at the Hinksford Arms was memorable, though not for the right reasons. Seated at a wobbly table smack in the middle of the “flight path to the toilets,” we kicked things off with high hopes—and no bread, despite being offered some.
After a 50-minute wait, our starters arrived. My smoked salmon and prawn cocktail was gone in 27 seconds due to its minuscule size, while my partner’s generous garlic mushrooms needed my “help” to finish. Both were tasty, but the wait continued.
An hour later, our turkey dinners arrived cold, less condiments, with raw carrots and hard sprouts. A drizzle of gravy added to the disappointment. Desserts followed, with my dry sticky toffee pudding and my partner’s chocolate tart, which appeared pre-nibbled.
The promised mince pies and coffee? We didn’t stick around. Slow service plagued our section, with neighboring diners complaining and walking out before finishing their meals.
A day we’d eagerly anticipated turned out to be a marathon of waiting and letdowns. A Christmas dinner to forget.
