The Local Cafe and Restaurant was created to offer experiential learning opportunities for our students. The Local is located on Centennial College, Progress Campus. At The Local, the hospitality, culinary and baking students learn in the restaurant as part of their embedded courses as well as their field placement's under the direction of our Faculty, Chef and Restaurant Technicians.

Our menus are inspired by the flavour profiles that represent the incredibly rich diversity of those who call Scarborough home. While sourcing local ingredients from within Ontario, we are proud to provide our students with the opportunity to develop the skills that hospitality employers demand.

Monday to Friday parking will not be eligible for validation at the restaurant. The Local guests can use the Pay and Display Parking available directly in front of the restaurant, or park in Lot #2 or Lot #3 just north of the building and pay for parking with a credit card at the exit gate. Saturday & Sunday brunch guests can receive parking validation with purchase of a main course.

Fantastic experience! The students here are very talented and show such professionalism that I'd argue that this is the best restaurant in all of Toronto! The menu was superb and the chefs are very skilled at making everything taste delicious. The servers were very kind, informative and attentive. Well done! Hope to see you sometime soon

The food was excellent! A lovely restaurant with attentive staff. We went for brunch and everything was fresh, well seasoned and delicious. I would definitely recommend this restaurant.

Moroccan meatballs, eggplant pizza both men. Ceasars salad drowning in dressing. Warm hot water, slow service. Servers were polite.

The café is ran by students so there is a certain level of nervousness, however, they are eager and helpful in wanting to do a good job. Brunch is excellent value, especially as it comes with a dessert and coffee/tea. A great space to have a meal with plenty of seats and menu options.

Love that the restaurant is zero waste and sustainable and tips go to the scholarship fund. The menu was simple but varied enough to appeal to most. The food was tasty and well prepared, though the mashed potatoes and gravy were cold when they got to the table. A replacement wasn’t offered. Very good value with the dessert included as well. We tried all desserts, the standouts were the trifle and pecan pie. Service was fairly attentive. Would return for the next menu in the spring!
