We booked in advance to celebrate our 5-year wedding anniversary as it was a highlighted and recommended restaurant from American Express and my wife had checked the pictures and videos and thought the restaurant looked very promising. Upon arrival, we were warmly greeted and offered door assistance as we had a baby pram. The hostess extended a pleasant greeting and wished us a Happy Anniversary which enhanced that warm welcome. However, we were then offered two tables that were opposite and next to the entrance door, meaning you would guarantee a cold breeze every time the door opened (hardly the romantic anniversary table). I also saw the hostess take a card from her station which was placed on the table as a way of acknowledging our special day. Hardly the prepared table we had hoped for and as the card was not addressed, it felt very generic and impersonal (certainly not something to keep). We were offered a high chair which we declined and were eventually shown to a table that had a booth seating which was comfortable for the three of us. The food was beautifully presented, although the portions are rather small and I certainly felt the "slice" of beef Wellington was an underwhelming portion, I would go as far as saying it was the smallest portion of beef Wellington I have ever received. The service was attentive, food served and cleared promptly, countless quality cheks, water at the beginning of the service was regularly refilled and a second beer was offered almost immediately after I had finished my first. However, I felt the setting was tight, the decoration felt dated and dusty and you could see the constant displeasure at those arriving being offered the same tables we had declined. There was no further acknowledgement of our wedding anniversary, an amuse bouche or something from the chef as a gesture, a 10% tip and £176 later and we left with barely a goodbye knowing that we would not return.
