The Mussel & Steak Bar is dedicated to serving high quality, fresh and locally sourced seafood & steaks, with warm service and welcoming surroundings. Our restaurant is located at the bottom of Victoria Street in the heart of Edinburgh's Old Town, just a few steps from the historic Royal Mile. While enjoying the best mussels, oysters and steaks that Scotland has to offer, you can catch a glimpse of Edinburgh Castle from our window.
Our menu features classic seafood and steak favourites with seasonal Scottish specialties: fresh oysters, kilo pots of steamed mussels, shellfish platters and delicious matured Scotch beef steaks. Sourced from the West to North coast of Scotland you can expect to find seafood specials of lobsters, crabs, langoustines and scallops.

Best mussels oysters and steak we have had for a very long time. Perfectly cooked. Baileys cheese cake had 2 chances to disappoint but food won both times. Well done guys you doing a great thing.

This was a NYE meal celebration for my friend and I. We had travelled from London and Switzerland so expectations were high!! Whilst the restaurant boasts it's seafood fare, we were a little disappointed. Kudos for the complimentary oysters, this was a nice touch. The restaurant was busy, cramped and poorly decorated upstairs considering the occasion. We were informed a staff left early so they were slammed (not sure we needed to know this but hey ho!) Our waiter, Al was excellent very friendly, fast, accommodating and apologetic when my scallops took much longer to arrive whilst my friend waited patiently to dine with me, thankfully she had a cold starter. The Surf & Turf was not the best. The ribs did not fall off the bone and tasted like yesterday's left over, but the mussels were very good. We were promised another free glass due to the slip up with the scallops but this did not materialise as staff rushed to clean and lock up to get into the midnight celebrations. With only on glass of wine each and a bill of over £120, this was not good value for money unfortunately. And we happen to hear the manager shout out that they had made their target with cash and credit card sales!! Not the best for customers to hear! But the waiter was excellent and deserved the tip in trying to keep it all together.

Really great food and service particularly impressed because it was New Year’s Eve and the restaurant was fully booked, would definitely go again

I’m we are from the U.S. and have been to Edinburgh 3 straight years while on holiday. We gave this restaurant a try on our first trip and have made it a point to come back each year we’ve been back
