The Ox Barn is a 56-seater destination restaurant under the direction of Head Chef, Charlie Hibbert. Rooted in a passion for the local land, food and entertaining, the carefully curated menus are farm-based and plant-inspired. His team and the gardeners at Thyme work together to select and grow the fruits, vegetables and herbs used to create his Modern British Countryside fare.

The nineteenth century former oxen house is the newest addition to the family of meticulously restored farm buildings. A state-of-the-art piece of agricultural architecture at its conception, Caryn Hibbert worked meticulously to preserve the soaring archways and original Cotswold stone rubble walls, to now house a modern, dining destination - including a contemporary bar and seven and a half metre Charvet open kitchen - to allow for an authentic, heritage-rich dining experience, enabled by today’s best culinary technologies.

                London quality, london prices. My only regret was not ordering the peppercorn sauce on the side so as to have tasted the ribeye ‘au natural’ first.

                Booked the Ox Barn for lunch as we were heading for the Painswick Garden Enchanted Lights in the early evening. The light show was cancelled because of Storm Darragh but am very glad we didn't cancel our reservation at the Ox Barn! Lunch in a huge but beautiful barn was lovely, service was friendly, food outstanding. Delicious pear salad to start, followed by the pasta and managed to finish the chocolate torte as well, all on the fixed price lunch menu. Great value.

                For a classy but friendly treat I recommend the Ox Barn for lunch out. The set menu is creative and service is nicely paced - not too slow - efficient but relaxed. All the wait-staff were charming (in a good way!). The decor and facilities are contemporary and spotless, with comfy sofas for relaxing while waiting for a friend or after the meal. There is plenty of parking. Google Maps unfortunately took me to the far end of the estate within the village of Southcrop, rather than through the pastures on the other side of the farm/estate. And on both visits I found it difficult to find. Signs for THYME in the village are tasteful but too discreet, if you don't know that you should be looking for them! Met my brother here halfway between my home in Stroud and his near Didcot.

                Outstanding dinner in the Ox Barn. We were made to feel special from start to finnish. The food was impeccable and the service outstanding! The puntarella margaritas was stunning

                Beautiful venue let down by unprofessional staff. Welcome was very underwhelming - no warm welcome, no one there to take care of your coats. Overfamiliar and pushy waiter spoiling a relaxed dining experience.
