We booked for 8 people at 2 o’clock on Sunday for afternoon tea. We were disappointed that there wasn’t much food left in the cabinet even though we’d booked a week earlier. Only 2 tarts, and a few pieces of cake and choc brownies, no scones or other choices. I also had to visit in person to book as the website wouldn’t allow a booking for more than 4 and my phone message wasn’t replied to.

Lovely setting in the old Dean's House. Clean, bright, quiet, tasty food, well presented, good wait staff. Jus a little fancier than the main drag of Riccarton Rd or the Mall and the walk there is very pleasurable

It was my sister's 80th birthday and she was surprised with a celebratory glass of bubbles which was a lovely surprise. The meal was very nice (all 3 of us had different versions of the omelette) which we all enjoyed. The waitress and service was very nice yet unobtrusive, and afterwards we enjoyed strolling round the grounds & sitting down by the river amidst the ducks. It was a beautiful day in a beautiful setting and we will be back.

We had hoped for a little more upmarket ambience for the occasion (birthday), however it was okay. The food - when it came - was good, but we had to wait rather a long time to get it

A lovely place that we go to regularly. Good food, lovely atmosphere and friendly staff except on our last visit when a staffer stood at the far end of the entrance and rather than walking over to us, she bellowed that we needed to take our wee mini schnauzer outside. We sit outside with her when eating and in the past she has been welcomed by all including a quick trip to the counter to pay so this overly blunt directive took us by surprise Overall however - highly recommend
