We booked The Ship for a valentines set menu as it looked good at a reasonable price.
A few days before the booking we received a phone call to ask for our starters and mains choice to help the chef organise the food needed. (I assume everyone had the same phone call)
On arrival at the venue we were greeted by great staff, we were seated in what we found out later to be the public bar that had been decorated for the valentines special. We had bread at the table and were given a glass of champagne. The starters came and all was good - then it went downhill! It took several requests for the main which finally arrived 2 hours later. The 4 tables alongside us also had the same problem and we were all very disappointed by the lack of communication from the manager who to be honest avoided contact with the room. When finally one of the diners caught the managers attention to complain about all of our treatment and he finally offered 50% off the bill. He then informed us that there was a problem with the chef, I assume lack of staff to help.
I must add that when the food finally arrived it was faultless. What let the venue down was the lack/no communication from the manager.
We certainly won't risk booking again, which is a shame as the rest of the staff did try to assist us but it was out of their hands. Also the food was good when it finally arrived.
