Located in the heart of the Goodwood Estate and surrounded by the South Downs National Park, The Star & Garter in East Dean offers a delicious selection of freshly cooked, local and seasonal food in a charming dining space with red brick and oak beams. Just a mile down the hill from Goodwood Race Course we are 12 minutes drive from Chichester. Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner we try to source our ingredients as locally and as seasonally as possible. Whether you are at a Goodwood Event or walking, cycling or just out for a drive and fancy a decent meal at reasonable prices, we like to think we are one of the best around. We have a great courtyard and garden space which can seat up to 100 people. Freshly ground coffee is available all day. With a mixture of local people and tourists there's always a warm welcome here.

This is our second visit and we won’t be back. Nice staff and friendly service but last nights food quality was poor. The trout for starters portion was minuscule whilst I appreciate with its delicate flavours it’s not meant to be a large serving this was ridiculous. There was barely one forkful. The boeuf bourguignon was very salty and resembled school dinners. No fresh vegetables were served and it was very disappointing. Many items were off the menu after a busy lunchtime which is understandable at this time of year but to serve food like this was not acceptable.

A terrific evening for a family celebration. Great live music and the team were so hospitable on a very busy night. Super atmosphere and the food was very good, as usual.

Food was lovely overall some lovely roast dinner flavours that you look for. Shame that it didn’t come with some crackling although the pork was a good portion not this measly amount you sometimes get. The pork had a decent flavour. Could have done with extra gravy. Only one potatoe had lost its crunch and seemed a little chewy but I’m being picky as the flavour of the potatoes was what you would look for. I would recommend eating at the pub. Lovely food over all has the flavour as mentioned and a Good portion.

Not quite as good as our previous experiences here. Specifically a main course we chose turned out not to be available in the way it was described on the menu and then a sweet we ordered came with different ingredients to those on the menu. We did mention these points and the bill was adjusted - thanks. Service was very pleasant - though we did have to persuade some staff to find out what certain dishes were. But overall we had a nice lunch.

Our experience at this delightful pub was perfect from start to finish. We were made to feel very welcome & the slightly awkward dining time we had to book was accommodated extremely well by both kitchen and front of house teams. Our brunch/lunch was delicious. I cannot recommend this pub highly enough.

Picked this pub to meet old friends halfway for lunch - and what a great choice. Cracking country pub, lovely atmosphere, good food and great hosts. Local produce also available to purchase as a bonus. All made for a lovely meet-up.
