Our experience on Valentine's night was disappointing.
We were running a little late and arrived at 19:45, and were the last guests entering the restaurant, this is important.
We were expecting the choice of the set Valtines menu, or the normal menu, however we were forced to have the very expensive fixed valentines menu.
The starter was lovely, salmon and scallop terrene.
We both chose beef burnt ends for the main, the only other meat choice being salted chicken, which does not even sound nice!. However, after waiting an hour, the waiter comes out to tell us that they have run out of the main. Now we were the last in and no one else was served a main after we got there. When we said we did not like the only other meat choice, and could they russel up a steak (normally on the menu), after a few minutes they come back and say they can offer one portion. We politely declined and asked for the bill, where upon the waiter again goes out back and comes back again a few minutes later, magically able to provide us with two servings.
What arrived I would expect from a cafe and not something from a first rate restaurant.
The desert was mediocre, my wife had the chocolate souffle with grapefruit sorbet which was so tart to be inedible (we also heard other guests complaining about this).
So, all in all a very disappointing experience, at the very least I would have hoped the owner could have popped over to apologise and try to make things better, however what happened was we left, £200 lighter (really!) and two guests from Kent that will be ensuring that they and their friends know what we experienced.
