The Woodmans Arms is a beautiful ‘country feel’ pub and dining room situated within the village of Whickham, at the top of the hill, hidden amongst rows of spectacular trees. We are more than just a venue, we are a destination worth travelling to serving classic comforting food made with love, served in cosy surroundings overlooking the most amazing views of the North East.

We are the proud winner of the Newcastle Chronicle’s Eddy Eats’ pub of the year for character, quality, service and value. UK top 3 in the Seafish National Fish and Chip awards 2019 and Diners’ choice award for best ambience. Best British Pub Pie winner for 2020.

We support our local farmers, and work closely with a number of local suppliers to ensure the very best fresh produce. All our food is cooked freshly to order so whether it be a bar snack, light bite, leisurely lunch, evening meal or Sunday Roast it is safe to say that you will in safe hands.

Such a gorgeous venue the decor is amazing. The staff were amazing and it was such a nice experience. Loved the food and will definitely be returning again in the future.

New Years Eve. Lovely setting, decor was great. Possibly due to where we were sitting, the singer sounded less than ideal, the wall blocked the music and isolated the very loud vocals. Food was decent, the soup starter wasn't particularly tasty, but the fish starter, catch of the day main and steak were good. Service was excellent and friendly. Overall we'll come back on a regular day and give the standard menu a shot (it looks great).

Not a lot of vegetarian options, unidentified sauce on cauliflower dish… not on menu and staff were not sure 🤔 which was poor. Food quality was average, suffered from post Christmas pre New Year blues … decorations much praised on social media were less than average. Had previously attended a wreath making session in the willows (adjacent) and expected food standard to be similar… sadly not. Our anniversary meal was not as good as I hoped it would be. Overall I was disappointed.

Pie wasn’t very hot and they sat us in a busy area near the kitchen so we had people coming in and out of the kitchen area while we were eating.

Food quality seems to have declined. Service was a bit indifferent on the day. We commented that the slaw was turning bad but just received an “OK” from the staff. We also realised at the end that the passionfruit cider we ordered was “mango and raspberry”. We did not raise any fuss as it was first day back at work after Christmas but we expect the dining experience to improve next time.
