   We were a big party (9) and it was a surprisingly busy night for a Wednesday. The service was unobtrusive yet attentive. It was a refreshing change not to have a burger on the menu and sets the York out as something more than pub grub. Food arrived together and was tasty. A few had the very good value risotto special. My Cod was delicious. Most had puddings and the Gorgonzola with toasted fruit bread, pickled walnuts and onion marmalade was a real highlight. The Black Forest Trifle was a hit too. With drinks and service charge at £38 a head it was a super birthday party meal. We will return!

   Lovely pub with a fantastic welcome. Beautifully cooked Sunday roast with the biggest yorkies I’ve ever seen! Fab service and very good value for money.

   There’s an excellent bunch of imaginative chefs here, nice friendly staff and an open fire. No wonder it’s nearly full on a Wednesday night.

    Booking was accepted for the Mirror Room, but the table was located elsewhere. Unfortunately, the sun was out & shining directly into diners' eyes. Very uncomfortable. That being said, the food & drinks were presented well & tasted delicious. The staff were friendly, patient & competent at a very busy time of Sunday lunch. It's worth another visit, & maybe a different day too.
