Tonto Bar & Grill: A Taste of Native Arizona

Enjoy American Southwestern cuisine featuring salads, sandwiches, pasta, fresh seafood, mesquite-grilled steaks, and house-made desserts. One menu is served all day. Tonto Bar & Grill, gives diners a view of modern desert life with a peek into the past. The restaurant sits on what was once Native American land and later used as a stopover camp for the U.S. Cavalry, and the building itself was part of the prestigious Rancho Mañana dude ranch. It’s chock-full of the charm of earlier eras, displaying ranching implements, vintage 1940s photos and original architecture. Food was excellent. We are Vegan and they actually have a separate Vegan Menu (as well as a Gluten Free Menu). We were celebrating my birthday and were SO disappointed they had NO Vegan desserts but they had a Gluten Free dessert. Hmmm. Oh well. The Server and Service was good and the Ambience was incredible. The lack of a Dessert (especially to celebrate) was not a good ending to a wonderful dinner.

Restaurant does not allow you to enjoy the outdoor patio if you are only ordering drinks and appetizers. As a paying patron, I find this ridiculous — nor does the quality of the food justify the cost. I’d recommend checking out the other local restaurants in Cave Creek.

The service, food and ambiance were excellent. We ate inside at the front of the restaurant. Nice room with a real fireplace lit. We happened to be there in Wine Wednesday and got 30% off the bottle if wi e we shared. An unexpected bonus. Great meal. Thank you Tonto's!!

Great place. Always has been. Back for another season. The dining room tends to have a high noise level - but still worth every visit.

The Walleye is the best meal on the menu and two of us enjoyed it immensely. Love how the meals come hot and the plates are hot. I had the schnitzel which was delicious as usual. The poke appetizer was also perfect for the 4 of us.

I reserved an outside table for a special day. ( online ) I was directed to an inside table. I questioned this mistake but there were no outside tables available at this time. The receptionist was mostly unconcerned and made little effort to correct this issue. This place is still my favorite.

We had Ashley as our server for the second time in 10 days and she was flawless in both instances. I ordered walleye w/green beans and potato pancake. Beans were too raw to cut even with my knife and drenched in oil. ? My potato’pancake’ was soggy with oil and mushy, undercooked. Walleye soaked in oil. Not dry,light and flaky as expected. Ordered same entree last visit and it was delicious. ???? Today, very disappointed. Hubby had schnitzel as usual and it was very good. I Had room for a Lucious chocolate fudge gelato with fresh fruit. Hubby loved his spiced Bundt cake with coffee gelato. A nice finish to a somewhat dissatisfying meal.

Filet was sub standard. Cut of meat was not the quality I would have expect from Tonto Grill. However, the salmon was amazing.

They have a very unique menu, and everything we ordered was very good. The service was good but a bit rushed. We sat in a smaller room off the bar, and it was very noisy, which detracted from the overall dining experience. The prices were on the high side so esting here will typically be an occasional visit. But overall, we enjoyed it.
