Through no fault of the Top of the Turn staff, our reservation was switched from the dining room (so we could watch the harness racing), to the newly renovated downstairs buffet. Flamboro Downs staff contacted me to say the dining room would not be open for our requested reservation and they would reserve us a track-side table in the buffet so we could still watch the races. The table beside us was obviously in the same position - there because they wanted to watch the races.
Yes, our table was facing the track - but it was definitely not viewer-friendly to watch the races. The window glass was tinted so dark you couldn't see the track from the table. The room lights could not be turned off either, which meant the only way you could see the track and horses was if your nose was practically pressed to the glass. None of the announcing was broadcast into the room either, so you really had no idea what was going on on the track. There were also not any television sets available to watch, and the wagering only took place upstairs. As we are harness racing fans, this was a less than ideal night out to watch the races with our family.
On a plus side, the Top of the Turn staff was fabulous in dealing with our situation - they were extremely apologetic and went out of their way to make the best of it for us. We greatly appreciated them reserving a table upstairs for us so that we could watch the races when our dinner was finished. And continuing to bring us beverages was a nice bonus - but a lot of extra steps for them. Thank you to the staff for being so great!
Hopefully, the powers-that-be at Flamboro Downs remember that the racetrack was there long before the casino was ever thought to be - and some people are happier watching live entertainment than sitting in front of a loud, bright slot machine.
