About the place? Being a lover of Filipino food, and having already tried Turo Turo in Holborn, upon finding they’ve opened a restaurant in Tooting, we had to try it to see what new dishes were on offer.
What I ordered? Firstly, let me say that the two dishes that I really wanted to try Crispy Beef Kare Kare and Grilled Chicken Inasal were both unavailable. So, we decided to go for Sizzling Pork Sisig, Pork Liempo. Charred Aubergine, Ensaladang Talong, Prawn Pancit Canton, Jasmine Rice and Turon with Ube ice cream (Banana and Tahini ice cream was out of stock.)
How was it? Overall, it was a pleasurable experience, obviously a few shortages but nothing that was going to ruin our experience, shortages happen you need to roll with it.
What I liked? Everything was delicious, but the standout dishes for me were both the Prawn Pancit Canton and Sizzling Pork Sisig.
What didn’t I like? If I had to pick one thing it would be the door, it was not closing correctly and therefore it got cold every time someone used it as it needed to be physically closed. But this is a minor issue, as we all know that cold affects wooden doors, and it’s a relatively new venue.
Would I go back? Yes of course, to try the dishes I was unable to order due to being out of stock. I would love to see a few additions to the menu, Calamansi both fresh and as a drink, Sinigang, and would love to see Pares (but that’s just personal preference).
On to the rating? Okay, my rule of thumb is to give a maximum of 4 stars on my first visit, as a five-star rating is mainly for consistency.
