Ula is a beautiful European Mediterranean restaurant and tapas bar in San Francisco. Sip your martini or quality wine with a seafood-centric menu that has a focus on raw, roasted, and grilled fish and various roasted and grilled meats, pasta, gluten-free, vegetarian, and vegan selections. The restaurant is maximalist art deco with fixtures that depict jellyfish, oysters, and grand maritime vessels. Just a hop from Union Square, the delightfully vintage dining room begs to be paired with a nostalgic trolley ride and a stroll through the heart of the city. Nothing outstanding and some not good. Black Manhattan had too much Amaro. Lemoncello drop was unfinished. Just not good cocktails. Beet salad was good, but burrata was an afterthought in that dish. Focaccia- unremarkable. Land meatballs very good, but why not give more sauce with them? Tuna tartare, meh. No flavor. This is next door to Morton’s. It needs to stand out and be better than formula food. It doesn’t.

- Food was very good - tapas allowed us to try multiple small dishes - and we enjoyed them all - Service was attentive, but not obsequious - Decor was interesting in a good way

We had not been here in a while and the experience has declined substantially. I will say the food is good but the service is awful. We wanted to sit in the back area but it was completely closed off for some reason so we were in the drafty cold front part of the room near the bar. Wait staff was too busy socializing and drinking to be attentive. We could have saved a bundle by going to an actual bar where you expect the waitstaff to be so-so. The 20% tip is included which I’ve not seen before. I usually tip 20% or more for good/great not mediocre service. I’ve not seen mandatory tips added for 2 people, that seems rude. With so many great places in the city don’t waste your hard earned $$ here.

Expect too much something good but really disappointed- honestly NEVER go back this restaurant NEVER!

Official first date for me and my new guy. Christmas Eve Dinner was great. Service was awesome, live music was really good so was the food.

I haven’t been in this venue since it was Faralon and the new owners got lucky with the space & thankfully kept the decor. The food selection is decent but the food is overall moderate. Service was ok.. no attention that wine glasses were empty so we poured ourselves! Focaccia bread came with butter but says evo on the menu. I also didn’t like that 20% service charge is automatic added to the bill and the server did not mention that. Will we return probably not as I feel there are other options downtown that you get better value & come away satisfied.
