Our magical conservatory restaurant is set amid Updown’s rambling grounds. Dine under the grape vines surrounded by beautiful 17th century brick and watch the chefs in the open kitchen tending to the wood fired grill and original farm house bread oven. The restaurant has been completely transformed by owners Ruth and Oli to be heated and fully enclosed and is open year round.

Menus will be small, hyper seasonal and use the best of local and European produce and change on regular basis to reflect what’s best. Everything is cooked over wood in the open kitchen. There is a short list of exciting wines of limited availability, local beers and seasonal cocktails.

On Wednesday nights in place of our à la carte we cook a Steak Night menu , priced at £30 per person for 3 courses. On Sunday nights the restaurant is closed but we serve a light supper for hotel guests in the Farmhouse.

    Updown has several beautiful spaces in which to host your private event. We have a beautiful conservatory Private Dining Room overlooking the farmhouse lawn. It is perfect for groups of 4 to 14 for a seated meal, or up to 20 for a drinks party. The main restaurant can accommodate up to 50 sitting or 150 standing and is ideal for a larger party.

    Shuko Oda from the much-loved Japanese udon bar Koya will kick the series off, bringing with her a menu that combines authentic Japanese techniques and flavours with seasonal British ingredients. Shuko will work with Oli to create a number of dishes inspired by her Japanese roots and comprehensive travels across the world. The menu: Almond tofu with dates and crown prince squash Asparagus tempura with nori salt and citrus Grilled Skate in sake kasu Negi-meshi: leek rice Pickles (three types) Clam Dashi Hojicha Jelly with black beans and cream All dining is for communal tables and everyone will be served together, with guests invited to sit from 7pm and dinner served from 7.30pm. Tickets are £65 per person including a welcome drink.

    On Saturday 26th April, the fiery island flavours of Soho’s Paradise and Dom Fernando will take over the kitchens of Updown. With a menu inspired by his Sri Lankan heritage, Dom’s menu will celebrate the best of British and Sri Lankan produce for a contemporary twist on Sinhalese cuisine. The menu to be confirm All dining is for communal tables and everyone will be served together, with guests invited to sit from 7pm and dinner served from 7.30pm. Tickets are £65 per person including a welcome drink.

    Delicious Sunday lunch at Updown. Our go to place for Sunday lunch and for celebratory meals. Roast pork with all the trimmings, nice thick piece of pork, crunchy potatoes and crackling with a selection of vegetables.

    The food was pretty dreadful on the whole. Only one of six of our party enjoyed it. Disappointing given the hype

    Fabulous food Flavours unexpected but worked so well Best Minestrone soup ever ! We had Turbot with citrus sauce ( who knew ) brilliant flavours ! Service great , A really good “ farmhouse vibe “ Relaxed but cool and stylish Maybe bit drafty?? . There were heaters above which were timed we think but sitting near wall with vine coming through and breeze around feet and legs ,, !, but we’re old so feel it more keenly than others younger end !! When we came in a lot of smoke in space but it cleared after 45 minutes. But no lingering after smells and we quite liked the ambience smoke gave !! We will be back !! Brilliant place -👍

    An excellent Sunday Lunch. New floor to the car park was a welcome sight plus a new more air tight roof to the restaurant. But the main act was the food. An excellent lunch, my wife's seafood tagliatelle was very good indeed. Both had the roast pork and to finish we both had the cheese board. Overall, a very relaxing lunch. Many Thanks

    We really enjoyed our lunch at Updown, the food was excellent. Fresh and tasty with appropriate size portions. We had cocktails on arrival which were delicious and creative. The service was excellent, we never felt rushed and the team were friendly and knowledgeable. We will definitely be returning.

    We have found this restaurant hit and miss over time, but generally more hit than miss, and when it hits it’s very good. However, last night was a miss. The chicken liver crostini for starters was really good. But, the apricot margarita wasn’t a margarita and was far too sweet. The main, the lamb was slightly underdone, the puntarelle was stringy, and overall the mix of flavours (garlic, anchovy, bitter puntarelle, mint (?I think) didn’t work, and the dish became a slop very quickly. For desert the vanilla pannacotta with rhubarb and grappa sounded promising, and the pannacotta was delicious, but all the flavours and aromas were overwhelmed by far too much straight grappa, leaving me unable to get the taste of grappa out of my mouth for the rest of the night. It was disappointing for a restaurant that mostly produces fantastic food.

    Really disappointed, the venue was extremely loud and cold despite wall heaters. A very disappointed main course, they discontinued our bill due to the problem. Unfortunately we would not return as the food was not to the standard we were expecting.

    Best roast I've had. Big portions that I thought I could not manage all my dessert but I discovered my other belly! It was my birthday and they looked after me well. Highly recommend this place, I go regularly.

    Food was excellent, foccachia and capenzzna, seafood pasta and rice pudding where stand out. I cant fault it everything was cooked to perfection I want to go every weekend forever.

    A very pleasant dining experience. Apart from a rather muddy car park it is in a lovely setting. The tables are well spaced, the chairs perfectly comfortable and the general ambiance is very nice. The staff were pleasant and professional; service was well timed and the set menu was very good. All in all it is a place to which we shall return. Well done all.
