Brand new to the neighborhood and we eat out every night, so what could and should have been a nice evening and likely would have led to being a regular occurrence turned into a crappy experience.
Started off well when we sat down and soon after the owner stopped by our table. It wasn’t busy so the owner stayed and chatted - which was super nice. He even helped guide and then took our order for dinner. All good. Until nearly an HOUR went by and the food never arrived. He was busy hanging out at the only other table in the restaurant and the rest of the staff, sitting / standing nearby, never once came by to check on us, for drinks or for the dinners. There was more more staff than customers by this point in the night but not 1 of the 5 staff, on their phones or talking to each other, came over.
Finally, the owners friends got up and left and he came over to our table - and had to re ask what we had ordered! An hour later. They had not even put the order in!!
Never a word of an apology. Not a word!!
15 minutes later, at nearly 11:15 at night, we were upset and done.
Finally, as we were about ready to leave, the food came. Looked great but it was too late . . . dining is like dancing and timing is important. And the timing of this night was ruined.
We walked out hungry and upset, without ever having eaten the entrees.
Incredibly, the owner made a show of taking the entrees off the final bill. That was the icing on the cake. I wasn’t looking for free food, I only wanted an enjoyable dinner.
Too bad for everyone. They lost future long term, frequent customers and we lost our first night in the neighborhood. Instead of telling our new neighbors about our “go to” restaurant, we only can share our crappy experience at Via Toscana. And, then, walk right by it daily to other, better restaurants in the area.
