What a huge disappointment!
We waited 30 minutes past our reservation time in a long queue. No one bothered to inform us as to why there was such a delay, and there was frustration and anxiety in the line as a result.
When we finally got to the hostess, she had to call out to a lone man who was ambling through the ballroom looking for random open tables that seated the number needed. When he found one, he would wave his hand and folks would wade through the room to him. At our table, there were crumpled used tissues on the floor under one chair. The table was set for 4, (there were two in our party), and there was only one napkin.
It took 10 more minutes for a server to come to us. He explained the buffet and asked for our drink order, we requested iced tea. Those drinks were never brought to us. Halfway through the meal a second server arrived, asked if we had been helped, and asked if we would like coffee, one of us did. There were no coffee cups on our table, but he only had one saucer. He went in search of a coffee cup and we never saw him again. 40 minutes and 2 requests later (to server #1), and we got coffee but no refill.
Other staff bussed tables, cleared dirty plates, and folded napkins in a corner of the room but seemed unauthorized to serve soft drinks or otherwise help.
The food itself was mostly good, some things were dried out in the chafing dishes and others were not at all hot. Gravies/sauces were placed along the line with no identification as to what they were or what meat they should accompany.
The salad and cold food section was more well done, selections there were better identified and flavorful. Desserts were plentiful and a very nice variety. Again, with so many reservations in a ballroom setting, the buffet was quite messy. There just didn’t seem to be enough servers, floor managers, or anyone that seemed to actually care.
This was a prepaid $100 per person event, not cheap. I wonder if that de-incentivized good service? A disgrace!
