Overlooking the confluence of Spray and Bow Rivers, The Waldhaus. our "House in the Forest" is a retreat for those seeking solace from Banff's bustle. What began as the Clubhouse for the renowned Stanley Thompson Golf Course has transformed into a sanctuary of Mountain gastronomy. In the dining room above, rich timber and a majestic hearth narrate the epic tales of bygone explorations. Meanwhile, the Bierhalle below is where history and merriment collide, offering a spirited space for companionship, games, and the shared joy of storied adventures.

Please note:
- The Waldhaus is designated as a historical building and such has stairs to access all areas.
- The Bierhalle and Billardhalle only take limited reservations, otherwise operating on a first-come, first-served basis
- Regrettably the Waldhaus does not take reservations for its patio due to the unpredictability of mountain weather however, we will do our best to accommodate patio requests on a per case basis.

    The hotel's parking is located beside the Convention Center. It is a three-level roofed parkade with 415 parking spaces. Self-Parking Per hour = $15 per hour Self-parking per day = $50 Valet = $49 per day
  • Public transit
    Roam Transit provided by the town of Banff runs approximately every 40 minutes to and from Town to the Fairmont Banff Springs. Enter through the Hotel's main doors proceeding down the hall past the Fairmont Spa and out the doors to your right. Continue down the pathway to the stairs on your left which will take you down to the Waldhaus.Bus Fare is $2.00 per person.

    Not our first time at the restauarant. I love green European Alpine Atmoshere, but I will not likely choose this restaurant again. We had the cheese fondue. It was prepared fine, but it lacked in taste. I’m guessing the cheese blend was light on gruyere. My girlfriend had the split pea soup. It was a bit bland as well, but It came out Luke warm. We sent it back and it came back about 10 minutes later. It was a new serving and hot. I had the schnitzel. It too lacked flavour, vastly undersalted. We requested salt and pepper from the server and the host but it took about 10 minutes, at which point my food too was cold. It’s unfortunate because I really looked forward to sharing the experience with my girlfriend!

    We had been there once before but only for drinks in the bar. The staff was wonderful and the food was amazing. Get the fondue!

    Ambience was lovely . . . one can't beat eating fondue by a crackling fire after a long day in the cold and snow. Food is average, still some room for improvement though. But I'm German, so perhaps I am more picky than some?

    Food was good, atmosphere was good. Service was average. Waiter was a little bit sassy and seemed like he wanted to go home.

    Dinner was absolutely fabulous, and the valet was so kind to drive us to the restaurant from the hotel as the steps were icy. The fondue was incredible! And the veal, bratwurst, and schnitzel were perfection. We all enjoyed our meals very much, and the staff made our multiple birthdays experience absolutely wonderful and memorable. We will definitely be back!

    Hotel laid on a free shuttle to the restaurant, despite the fact we weren’t guests at the hotel. Front of house gave a warm welcome, explained the theme of the restaurant & we were shown to our table. Very attentive service, lovely food & great range of ales. Fabulous choice for dinner for our last night in Banff
