I recently visited Watercolour Fine Dining in Markham to celebrate my wife’s birthday with a party of four. While the restaurant has been a favorite of mine in the past, this experience left me feeling quite disappointed.
Let me start with the positives. The ambience was, as always, exceptional. The elegant and intimate setting made the evening feel special, which was perfect for a birthday celebration. The service was also top-notch—attentive, professional, and friendly. The staff went out of their way to make my wife feel celebrated, which we truly appreciated.
However, the food was a letdown. Compared to my previous visits, the dishes were underwhelming. The flavors were muted, and everything felt overly oily, which detracted from the overall dining experience. It was surprising, as I’ve had memorable meals here before. This inconsistency made me wonder if there’s been a change in the kitchen, perhaps a new chef or a shift in the culinary direction.
While the ambience and service still make Watercolour a standout choice for special occasions, the food this time around didn’t live up to expectations. I hope this was just an off night and not a permanent change, as I’d love to see the restaurant return to its former culinary excellence. For now, I’d recommend the restaurant for its atmosphere and service, but with caution regarding the food.
