Tacoma’s newest waterfront restaurant, Woven Seafood & Chophouse, is a Roy Yamaguchi concept owned by The Puyallup Tribe of Indians. Woven celebrates a rich fusion of culinary traditions, honoring Yamaguchi’s Japanese heritage and pioneering Hawaii regional cuisine, along with the traditions of the Puyallup Tribe and the bounty of the Pacific Northwest.

    I ordered a medium rare steak and it came out medium well. The server took the steak and after 15 minutes of waiting and the others in our party were finished with their meal - we told them to forget about the steak.

    Ribeye was tough and uncharacteristically grizzly. Need to up their food quality to match pricing or reduce the cost and eventually go out of business. Atmosphere was amazing.

    I had high hopes for brunch at Woven in Tacoma, but unfortunately, our experience was disappointing from start to finish. The Booking Issue The online reservation system didn’t allow us to book for our full party size, so we made two separate reservations and noted that we wanted to sit together. When we arrived, the restaurant was nearly empty, yet the hostess greeted us with attitude instead of assistance, immediately scolding us for booking incorrectly rather than trying to accommodate. Rigid & Inflexible Policies After repeatedly confirming our guest count, she walked away, only to return moments later and inform us that our entire table must be on one check with a mandatory 20% gratuity—something not disclosed at the time of booking. We had no issue with gratuity, but the unwillingness to split checks reasonably was frustrating, especially for a restaurant that wasn’t even busy. Declining Food Quality & Cold Service Compared to a previous visit, the food and drinks were subpar this time. Service was indifferent at best. When it came time to pay, the server refused to provide separate checks and sternly told us we could only split the bill evenly across four cards. A Condescending Goodbye As we left, the hostess mockingly said, “Oh look, they’re smiling, they must have had a good time.” That comment alone confirmed we won’t be returning. Final Thoughts I work in hospitality and understand the importance of clear policies, flexibility, and great service—Woven failed in all three areas. Four of us had been here before and brought new guests based on past experiences, but after this visit, none of us will be coming back. Instead, we’ll take our business to The Lobster Shop, where customer service actually matters.

    The appetizer/sushi was delicious. The meal was also very good. Although, the server didn’t how the meals tasted, what she did ask was if we wanted dessert when I had only had a bite or two of the entree. We were there for a dining experience, not to be rushed while we were celebrating a special birthday dinner.

    We had an amazing dinner. The ambiance, staff, and food were phenomenal! Definitely going back.

    The entire service team was phenomenal. Zac and Alex were great waiters. Zac shared the how the dishes were prepared and where the ingredients came from. Woven has a fantastic team. They are extremely friendly and truly care about their customers. We had an exceptional experience and would come back so we can try other dishes.

    The food was incredible. We started with crab, artichoke dip, which I thought was sort of a standard starter. This dip was unlike any I had ever had in the way. I had the lamb Ragu for dinner and my husband had the short ribs, both were exquisite. I highly recommend this place.

    The crab artichoke dip with fried bread was the best dish we had. Pesto pasta, sushi rolls, and the crudo was ok. Just felt like it was premade and fridged, and it was a seemingly slow lunch hour. Also ordered the special drink they had at the time, kimchi Bloody Mary, which was actually really good balanced and not too overpowering with kimchi taste. Service was perfect and ambiance was great overlooking the water. Just wished the food was made fresh.
