I've left several other stellar reviews of Yardbird Denver in the past. However, our experience last night was only marginal. Four of us had a 6:30pm reservation on a snowy Sunday evening.
The great: The Sunday Supper is a terrific value and two of our party ordered that menu (Caesar salad, mac & cheese, biscuits, deviled eggs, Brussels sprouts, fried chicken and a fried oreo/vanilla ice cream dessert for $35). Also great are the skillet cornbread and my favorite fried green tomato BLT stack appetizer with tender smoked pork belly. Sooo good.
The not great: one of us ordered the chicken and waffles which came without watermelon and the other non-Sunday Supper order was the RiNo mixed grill which was missing the burnt ends AND the Alabama white sauce. When I pointed this out to our server, he said he'd see what he could do and then disappeared until the end of the meal when he said he would take the RiNo order off the bill. Really not acceptable - if they didn't have watermelon or the burnt ends or the sauce, why not say so at the top of the seating? If they had it and just missed it, then why not bring the items when notified?
At the moment, we're not keen on making a repeat visit to the Denver Yardbird. Our first experience with Yardbird was in Las Vegas many years ago when they opened at the Venetian and we have had some great meals at the Denver location but I'm not sure what happened last night. Very sad.
