Rat’s Restaurant is the perfect dining destination. Named for the fabled entertaining character in Kenneth Graham’s children’s classic, The Wind in the Willows, Rat’s Restaurant is designed to give visitors the sense they have stepped into a village reminiscent of the impressionist painter Claude Monet’s beloved town of Giverny. Rustic fireplaces, country French cuisine, seasonal hand-crafted cocktails and an eclectic beer and wine list are just the beginning. Regarded as one of the most romantic and beautiful restaurants in our region, Rat’s was named Philadelphia Magazine’s “Most Romantic Restaurant. The waiter Marco was a pleasure and the host checked on us to make sure everything was satisfactory. It was overall a very pleasant experience

Although the place was very nice the food was below par. I had the chicken dish which was over cooked and my husband had the steak that was also over cooked. Presentation was nice but lacking in flavor considering the price. I understand this is their off season menu, but they still need to serve better food I also wish the sculptures had lighting around the restaurant so you could enjoy them at night. We will try again probably for lunch.

We had a wonderful first experience today! Maynor was the best waiter too! Food was quick and delicious. We plan to go back at a later date.

Spur of the moment reservation at Rats since we had not been there in awhile. Disappointed to say the least. It took longer than usual for beverages from the bar. Menu selections were so limited - two appetizers, two sides, five entrees and two salads. Wine list was more extensive than food menu! My husband’s steak and the handful of potatoes were just ok. I had the Caesar salad with chicken since nothing else appealed to me. We shared a dessert. Unfortunately, the couple next to us were obnoxiously loud and disruptive, so impossible to have a conversation. Sorry Rats..but in no hurry to return.

While the lunch menu was not abundant in entree choices the foods our party of 5 had ordered all looked and tasted great. Servers were very accommodating regarding special substitutions. Service was fine and the wait staff was knowledgeable. One criticism is the fairly long wait to receive our meals

Grounds for Sculpture was gorgeous as usual, but Rats needs a refresh. We were very hungry, but didn't finish two of the dishes we ordered, mussels and roast chicken, because both had a bad aftertaste. The broth for the mussels, which I normally can't get enough of, was heavy and too strong. The chicken had a strange yellow gelatinous sauce that was really unpleasant. The cod was good, but for $41 I was expecting more than just a piece of fish. Some color on the plate would have been very welcome. Although the dining room was almost empty, our server sat a large, loud party within inches of us when there were other large tables available farther away. This ruined any chance of a relaxing meal. We left without ordering dessert, and our bill for two was still nearly $200 with tip. Rats! Won't go back again, unless I hear there is a major overhaul.

Ive been coming to Rat’s restaurant for many years, have had many family parties here and It’s always a wonderful experience and the wait staff is always excellent. My only complaint is that today when I had lunch there, the menu was extremely limited. There really weren’t many choices of appetizers and the entree selections were also much fewer than in the past. I hope that changes when the spring season gets underway as this was a disappointment.
