Fantastic meal! We were seated immediately and offered our choice of booth or table (Booth please!). Drinks and apps order was taken promptly and soon we were enjoying a lovely, chunky guacamole with warm, multi-colored totopos and a choice of three salsas, and possibly the best queso fundido I have ever have ever had the pleasure to enjoy, with the perfect accent of roasted salsa to dip it into and served with hot tortillas that I would guess by their wonderful flavor, are house made. I also ordered an off menu tequila cocktail called the “Corvette Summer” (tequila, lime, grapefruit juice and tonic water) which, though not on their menu, they were happy to provide.
Next, we were delighted with our mains - a hearty and very tender short rib, and two orders of their marvelous juicy and flavorful conchinita pibil which arrived with a wonderful risotto-esque jasmine rice mixed with some mellow diced poblanos alongside and our option of a delicious elote-style corn on the cob plus more of their soft, hot tortillas to fill with all that goodness!
We all opted for dessert - an Ibarra Chocolate Pudding, a Buñelo with ice cream, and a Coconut Panna Cotta. The chocolate pudding tasted just like Mexican hot chocolate and was served in a créme brulée type of shallow dish. The Buñelo, while fine, would not be chosen given a subsequent visit. My coconut panna cotta was perfection and just the sort of light and refreshing desert to top off the hearty meal. It was surrounded by suprémes of orange in its juice and thin slices of mango. As it was my birthday, I enjoyed a nice glass of chilled Prosecco as well.
We loved the interior design of the room, with its high, exposed beam ceilings to the large, bold contemporary paintings floated on illuminated bases, and the kitchen behind glass. For the holidays there were a few, big, bold decorations, in keeping with the large scale of room.
We are already looking forward to sampling their brunch offerings soon!
