In 1688, Joseph Haviland built a tidewater gristmill that provided the locally-grown grains to a nearby bakery that supplied farmers and tradesmen with bread. It was the first public oven in New York State. Haviland’s Old Grist Mill and the public bakery were community gathering places for two centuries.
Inspired by Joseph Haviland’s noble efforts, the Haviland Kitchen & Bar has been established for our neighbors. A place for our community to gather and share food and drink that are crafted of the finest in-season regional ingredients.

Chef Francis Derby brings you a menu focused on seasonality and sustainability with continental cuisine ranging from a raw bar selection and local farm produce to house made pastas and dry aged steaks. Our beverage menu is an eclectic mix of cocktails curated by seasoned bartenders and a wine list from around the world.
