Skates on the Bay is a beautiful and historic waterfront gathering place for fresh seafood and unmatched views of the San Francisco Bay, offering lunch, brunch and dinner dining year-round. Originally opened in 1984 in the Berkeley Marina, the reimagined Skates on the Bay now boasts a modern and stunning decor, a new Raw Bar, elegant Private Dining Room and innovative local-driven menus.

    We had curry mussels, steamed clams, and the Ocean tower (the oysters {from Washington} were outstanding, fat and juicy, I haven't had that good in the 17 years I've been back on this coast).

    We had a wonderful time at Skates yesterday. I took my team to celebrate our Holiday Party. Food was great and the ambiance was very welcoming. Our waitress, Beatrice, was very professional and paid special attention to all my guests. We were there during a busy time of lunch so it was loud but that happens when it is busy. Thank you!

    I love, love, Skates!!! We had our annual “bestie” Christmas gift exchange and dinner! Brittany was our server and she is one if the best servers I have ever encountered! She was polite, efficient, went over and beyond to make our dining experience the best. Please give her, her Cudos!

    A meal at Skates on the Bay is a fabulous dining experience! This beautiful restaurant dishes up perfectly executed food that is super fresh and of the highest quality. Service is friendly and attentive, servers really know the menu and wine list and make great suggestions to create a perfect meal. The garlic bread is extra special and the desserts are delish! Wonderful for a special occasion <3

    Skates on the Bay in Berkeley provided a delightful lunch experience today as I caught up with a dear friend. We started with the artichoke and crab dip, which was rich and creamy, featuring generous chunks of fresh crab. It was served warm with toasted baguette slices, making it perfect for sharing while we chatted. For my main course, I enjoyed the salmon sandwich, which was a true highlight. The salmon was flaky and moist, topped with creamy avocado and served on a toasted brioche bun. The presentation was impeccable, making it almost too pretty to eat! The service was attentive yet unobtrusive, with our server offering excellent recommendations. The restaurant's waterfront location provided stunning views of the San Francisco Bay, creating an inviting atmosphere for our leisurely lunch.     Really cold inside restaurant once seated. Kung Pao Calamari is good and different. Cioppino is expensive and does not have bread with it - nothing spectacular. Crab legs not cracked - u have to do it yourself. Service is so so, service does not even say thank you nor welcome. Front desk is good. Chateau Montelena cab is good, makes u feel warm. Bread pudding the best!
